[eat] Spanakopitas

I rummaged through my fridge and pantry to no avail. Nothing interesting. result: made Spanakopitas. (Automatic spell check wanted me to change that to "Spanking". we'll save that for another post.. (kidding)).

First I had to use my (none existent) muscles to squeeze the water outta that Spinach. Chop up some parsley, mix with Feta, and throw in the garlic and sweated onions. ("sweating" refers to heating them in a pan until they become translucent, but not until golden).

Phyllo pastry comes in sheets. Layered about three of those (paper, egg wash, paper, egg wash, paper), and with a spoon scoop of filling, folded them up on themselves.

could have made a stop motion out of the last sequence of pictures

Out of the oven all yummy.

I think they turned out rather well.
And yet it didn't satiate me. greeeat. Now I have to figure out what I was craving, if it wasn't spinach and cheese and flaky envelopes.

[eat] Apple Pie

The best Apple pies are the ones that follow few rules or strict recipes. You grab a cook book, an awesome apron (*not optional!), and a few memories of the times you watched over a coworkers shoulder as they made pies and you ignored work responsibilities.. Got all that? Then you're all set! Apologies for the obnoxious titanium in the picture. I really need to downsize that thing.

Mine consisted of Spartan apples, Sour cream, Brown sugar, Cinnamon, Pie dough, and I made some crumble for the top.

Judging by facial expressions, my appetizers didn't impress. I guess the anticipation of the pie just distracted them from the cute-ily crafted entrées I had prepared.

Final result! It was sweet and apple-y and looked how a proper rustic home made pie should look.

Zero presentation points to whomever served it. What is that? A little mound of what?

Someone pass the vanilla icecream :)

[eat] Mes Macarons font pitié

Tried my hand at Macarons a few weeks back.
They don't quite look like their cousins
from Ladurée (Paris Macaron heaven),
but they did taste quite scrumptious nevertheless :)

This week's 새우 dumplings turned out admirably well ( most did not rip in half, spilling their insides across the plate, in a gruesome CSI crime scene manner), So perhaps I'm on a positive-cooking streak!
